The way you starting writing your thesis statements also depend on the type of writing that you will be doing. There are three basic types of essays that you need to be aware of when you write so that you can construct the right type of thesis statement for them. They are:
• Analytical Paper:
An analytical paper aims to break down an issue or idea into simpler smaller components. These components are then used to evaluate the issue or ideas in a step by step process; the final step is to breakdown and evaluates the issue for the audience.
• Expository Paper:
An expository paper aims at explaining something to the audience. It can either be an issue or an idea and it does not necessarily have to be focused on one side, but it can also take a neutral approach.
• Argumentative Paper:
An argumentative paper makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion, a policy proposal, an evaluation, a cause-and-effect statement, or an interpretation. The goal of the argumentative paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided.
When you think of writing thesis statements you should make sure you keep in mind the specific purpose for which you are writing. If you know the purpose of your writing then you can make your thesis statement as specific as possible. You will be able to cover the things that you will be discussing in the paper and thus support it with specific evidence.
When you write your thesis statement the placement of the thesis statement is also an important part that you need to take care of. Most readers expect the thesis statement to be at the end of the first paragraph. This is where you should try to place your thesis statement.
As you write your essay there is a great chance that you may not have had the same thoughts when you were writing a thesis statement, it may happen many times that you may have to revise your thesis statement to match what you have written in the essay. This usually happens because as you write you come up with new ideas and logic that can help you prove your point of view as you write. Thus, the original thesis statement that you may have written may not hold true at the end of the essay so you may have to revise it again once you complete writing your essay.
