How to write a thesis statement
At an average over a thousand thesis’ are written in a year, but not all of them are able to do well or even manage to get through. Writing a thesis statement is one of the most basic and the most important things that you need to be aware of way before you even start framing your thesis. The thesis statement alone has the power to determine whether your thesis will be able to do well or will it be just like any other ordinary thesis that people will lose interest in after reading a few pages. It sure is not as simple as essay writing.
The thesis statementis a synopsis which gives the reader the exact idea of what the argument and the analysis you will be talking about in the thesis. There are certain points that you need to clarify while you write your thesis.
The most important of these is the interpretation of the topic that you will be discussing in the thesis. This is one the basic purposes that a thesis statement needs to address. This helps set the tone of the whole thesis. If you are not able to justify the importance of thesis then the reader might not have a reason to read and further than the first few pages of your thesis.
Next, the thesis statement helps in organizing and developing the argument systematically. This is another important aspect that needs to be considered when writing as it helps set a platform for the whole thesis that you can build on as you progress in making your thesis. It will help the reader anticipate what they will be covering in the whole thesis. It helps the reader understand what he can expect from the thesis.
The type of thesis statement that you write will be used to determine what type of thesis you are writing. For example if the thesis statement is argumentative you need to present your argument clearly and make sure you present ideas that support your view point. If not then you will not be able to make the point that you aim to with your thesis.
The thesis statement has to be clear in the sense that you focus on one clear concept that you will be discussing throughout the thesis. The thesis statement has to be direct and to the point, there is no point in beating about the bush and leaving the audience uninterested when you can easily get their attention by clearly laying down what you will be discussing.
Although most thesis statements are placed at the end of the first paragraph, but if you think that some other place is more effective and it will have a greater impact then it is best to place the thesis statement there. There is no hard and fast rule that states that your thesis always has to be at the end of the first paragraph.
The best way to keep a readers’ attention is to ask a question and make them think and the come up with your view point later. This is one the most effective ways of putting forward your thesis statement.
