PHD Thesis Proposal
Tips on writing a PHD Thesis Proposal
A PHD Thesis Proposal is a document, created to put forth a topic, an area for a doctoral thesis. One might say it is just like a usual thesis proposal. The answer is, to some extent, yes! But the difference is that it requires one to have a specific level of education.
One of the great things about professional higher education is that it provides the students with an opportunity to contribute something of value to the society. This is a great challenge to those students as they need to prove their ability to implement their learning into solving real life problems. But in due process, the works they produce provide invaluable contribution to the societies they are part of and the rest of the world.
A PHD Thesis Proposal takes care of the topic which is going to be researched in great detail and also outlines as to how the author decides to investigate on the issue at hand, plus the outcomes and conclusions too.
• Function
But the function of PHD Thesis Proposals, like other thesis proposals, is similar. That is, to convince the readers that the topic being researched and investigate is worthy of it. And for that, the proposal should be powerful, compelling and interesting.
• Starting Point
At the start off point, the author should question her/himself, as to what really interests them. Research is something which requires great attention, interest and motivation. If the author isn’t really internally aligned to the topic, or does not regard the issue as worthy of importance, one can’t expect them to prove it to others even!
• Background Research
Once you’ve decided about the topic or the area of interest, it’s time to conduct a bit of research to see if your area of interest has been explored previously by some other scholars or authors. This gives a great advantage as this step helps you focus and narrow your topic more, giving you a better idea after going through various related works.
• Hard work
Another important aspect which often receives very little attention is hard work. A lot of times it happens so that the idea of research is brilliant, the literature review is pretty good too. But as the time passes, the level of motivation declines and ultimately the quality of work suffers. And it’s very rightly said by someone that no topic is inherently strong or weak. The amount of effort put into it really makes the work worthwhile. A lot of times it happens that we pick a very good idea to start off, but as we progress, things start to fall apart. So it’s imperative that we never underestimate the value of hard work.
So whether it’s a PHD Thesis Proposal or of any other level, we as researchers and as the audience and evaluators, should try that we consider the above highlighted issues. This way, we’ll be able to have works that are of superior level and quality.
