How to write a scientific research paper
As a student of science you will have to do a lot of research and present the research in form of a research paper. These papers will be different from the different essay writing exercises that you have already gone through. A scientific research paper is a comprehensive research paper that provides a synopsis of an already conducted scientific study. Such research papers are usually published in scientific journals, the classification of these papers will be on the topic of the scientific journal that they are being published in. If the study is really lengthy then it is usually published in doctoral dissertations. If you are still a student at the undergraduate or the graduate level, then you most probably will not be required to write a paper of the same magnitude that has been mentioned above.
Although it may seem that a scientific research paper will require a lot of research it is not exactly true, you will need to spend more time in the laboratory. The basis of any scientific research paper is the research that the student conducts based on their primary data. The paper reports the student’s study design, execution and the conclusion he reaches from it.
Every scientific research paper includes; the general format, includes an abstract, an introduction, followed by a review of different literature, a methodology section and the conclusions that you get from the study. If your study is comprehensive, you may be required to insert another section called the discussion section.
The abstract of your paper will include the summary of the whole study design, procedure and results. The abstract should cover every aspect that you have covered in the paper. The introduction section of the paper needs to cover and highlight the purpose of your research. It describes the subject that has been chosen and why it is being studied.
The next section of the scientific research paper is the literature review, which presents an overview of the relevant researches and studies that have already been conducted on the same topic. This will be the secondary data. The literature reviews’ main purpose is to contextualize the research that is being conducted and why the study is relevant or needs to be further researched.
After that comes the methods section of the scientific research paper. This stage clearly outlines the entire process of the study. Here you give a detailed explanation of the study subject, the steps involved, the instruments used in the study, and the methods used to gather the information. This is to be written in a manner that if the research is to be used at any time later everything is clear.
Finally, the result section of the scientific research paper will discuss the outcomes of the research that you have conducted. Here you use both qualitative and quantitative data obtained through the data analysis. If the research is really comprehensive you should include the discussion chapter which helps explore how the research has helped elucidate the already conducted research in the same field.
