Satirical essay topics must have a message
Satirical essay topics aim at highlighting hot issues, topics that are sensitive that can be controversial or there is a thin line between right and wrong. The main purpose of choosing such topics is that they can be focused on through the use of satire but you should not use harsh words when writing on them. Although, most people consider satire as a chance to crack a joke and make people laugh. This is not true, there is much more to satirical essays then just cracking a joke. Even if the topic seems easy you may not be able to write well on the satirical essay topics if it has not been thought off or if it has not been practiced well.
There are several issues that you can highlight in your satirical essay topics and there are several ways you can accomplish this:
- Editorials: Going through editorials daily you can get a good idea of the current issues prevalent in the society. Also, these columns are written with a lot of satire and flare. If you read them regularly you can also get a good idea of how you can use satire in your essay.
- Talk Shows: If you are someone who is looking for heated debates then watching political talk shows is what you should be doing. There is a lot of blame game and also a lot of issues that are highlighted, those which you can talk about when you write.
Also, before you start looking for satire topics you should think about what you want to accomplish. If you want your writing to be successful you should be able to identify the problem or short coming you would like to improve. This is something you can only do if you do the following:
- Know your audience: Knowledge about your potential readers is of great importance if you want to be able to write something successful. You will have to mould the satire that you use in your essay based on the audience that you will be writing for. Material that one form of reader may find funny could be something the other may find offensive that is why the knowledge of your audience is of great importance.
- Good taste: When you write you need to make sure that you do not cross the limits. There is a thin line between good humor and humor that leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Once again knowledge of your audience will have to be used here if you want to add good humor in your writing. It is often hard to see the line that is there to differentiate good taste from bad taste. If this is the case then you should make sure you write conservatively so that you write a safe essay that does not leave a negative impact on the reader.
Satire essay topics need to chosen with great care so that you are able to write on them with freedom. If you choose a controversial topic then you will have to be conservative in your approach.
