Introduction
An essay is a piece of writing that a person writes from his own point of view. There are mainly four different types of essays. They are descriptive essay, narrative essay, persuasive essay and expository essay. The author may choose a type based on the topic or the core subject of the essay. If he wants to write about his personal experiences with something, he can choose a narrative essay. If he wants to give instructions on something, he can write an expository essay. Hence, based on the subject matter of the essay, the writer can decide on the type of essay that is best suitable for reaching the readers. Essays can be on different topics of the writer’s choice. An essay on truth and courage should speak about moral values. If the writer wants to write a detailed account of his experience with truth and courage in his life, he can write a narrative essay. If he wishes to write about the importance of truth and courage and wants the readers to follow it in their lives, he can go for a persuasive essay. Therefore, the selection of essay type depends on the subject matter and how the writer wants to portray it.
Following moral values is important in life. That is why, right from childhood, students in schools are being taught a subject called value education, moral science and so on, as part of the curriculum. Similarly, ‘courage’ is another moral value that is to be followed in life. Being afraid of something is of no use. It is human nature to be afraid of something; people are mostly afraid of change. We are afraid of using or following something that is new; something that we have never heard of or never used to. This fear is quite reasonable and will disappear as time goes by. Time is the only medicine that can heal this kind of fear. But we are not talking about that in our essay. People are afraid of unnecessary, petty things. ‘Fear’ is a vast subject in psychology that cannot be covered in a single essay. However, it is important that we overcome this ‘fear’. Most of our enemies will be the happiest people in the world when they discover that we are ‘afraid’ of them. This one weakness is enough for them to make us suffer for the rest of our lives. There is no need to be afraid of anybody. Life is yours; live it for yourself and not for others!
So, an essay on truth and courage should highlight on the importance of following such values in life. However, these are not the only values in life. The essay can also have certain anecdotes that deal with a person’s experience in life that can be related to honesty or courage. Therefore you should write your essay in such a way as to persuade the others to follow these values in life.
