When we come to think about it, there is no such thing as a direct ticket to success, be it an examination or life. Hard word, or rather smart work coupled with interest and involvement will definitely lead to one to success. There are many types of essays. A student essay can be based on such topics also. Also, they say, ‘success lies not in the destination but in the journey’. There are so many ways to pass an exam. One can copy from someone else, or fake an identity and make somebody else write an exam in one’s place; find a way to obtain the question paper before the exam and so many other immoral ways. When a person does any of these, he does pass his examination. The destination is reached. But that cannot be considered as success because the journey (or the ways adopted to reach the destination) has been dishonest or unacceptable.
On the other hand, what is recognized as the moralistic and right way is to learn the lessons thoroughly and appear for the exam and write from one’s own memory rather than copying from someone else. In this case also the student passes the examination but this will be considered as success because the journey is flawless. Hence one can justify this popular quote ‘success lies not in the destination but in the journey’.
When one understands this, one can easily adopt many methods to prepare well for an exam. Many students are known to memorize the entire text. This is not necessary at all. It is enough if one understands the concept and writes it in their own words during the exam. It is true that certain definitions and terminology should be from the text book but not every ‘is’ and ‘was’!
A good method to remember important points is to prepare a module that contains all questions in the form of fill in the blanks or any other objective type questions. When this is done, one can just find the answers to them and that way, all the important points shall be remembered in the form of one-word answers. For a question that requires one to answer in detail, it is enough if one just clubs all these one-word answers and writes it as a paragraph.
If you notice, you can see that when you listen to a song repeatedly, you tend to repeat it unconsciously, even if it is of a different language that you do not understand. This is because of the repeated exposure to the song. Likewise, a student desperate to write the answers as they are in the text book can record the answers and listen to it repeatedly. At one point of time it will register on his mind. This is not encouraged but can be done if your teacher is particular about seeing the answers from the text in the paper as they are.
