Know What is a Persuasive Essay…

What is a Persuasive Essay?

Introduction

It is not uncommon for us to see that many students are given a lot of assignments related to their subjects. They are asked to write essays, research papers, term papers and so on. Out of all these, essays are the most common. Essays are usually short and written from the point of view of the author. They are of many types. The four main types of essays are descriptive essay, narrative essay, persuasive essay and expository essay. A brief explanation on each type of essay is given below. The persuasive type is dealt with in detail.

A descriptive essay is that which has a detailed account of the subject being written about. One can describe a person, place or a thing vividly. One can also describe experiences in such a way that the readers fully understand them using their five senses. By reading it, they should be able to feel the emotion that the writer has attempted to bring into the essay. Narrative essay is that which mainly deals with the sequence of events that happened at one point of time. It is usually written in first person. However, third person is also used. The best example is a novel or any story which deals with people and what happened etc. An expository essay is that which contains instructions or directions for the readers to follow while carrying out a particular task, for example, a recipe.

A persuasive essay is one which is written to influence a particular thought or action in the minds of the readers. The readers of the essay must be able to follow the writer’s line of thought and be persuaded rightly by the writer to do a particular action. For example, an essay about the importance of exercise might make the readers to realize the importance and follow the writer’s advice. This type of essay induces a particular opinion in the readers about the particular subject. The writer can give his suggestions and methods to make the readers follow his opinions correctly. For example, ‘Walking is a good exercise. It does not mean that a person should wear shorts and trainers and go to a walker’s park to carry out the task. Running errands for your elders or disposing your garbage also constitutes exercise”, are lines that suggest certain ways to influence a thought or action among the readers.

Persuasive essay writing is not very easy. One has to be very wise on a particular subject so that he/she will be able to advise the others on what to do and what not to do. The writer has to verify facts before mentioning them in the essay, for he cannot mislead his readers. It is also important that redundancy is avoided. Readers will get bored soon if the points are repeated. If you have more doubts, you always have custom essays at your service!
