An essay is normally defined as a small piece of writing that is written from the writer’s perspective. A student essay could be any of the four main types of essays. You will not feel exactly bad when heads turn to look at you when you cross the road, will you? ‘First impression is the best impression’ is a well known saying. But one does not know how many people take this seriously but there are some people who follow this at least for the sake of the saying. Many also believe that appearances are deceptive. This is also true. Nevertheless, regardless of what any saying ‘says’ people want to look good. Nobody cares whether it’s the first impression that could be deceptive or not. All they want to do is dress well and give a nice impression of themselves to others. And today’s corporate world also attaches a good deal of importance to the way of dressing. There are also people who say that appearances are not important and it is the heart and mind of a person that are important. To an extent, this can be accepted. However, let us consider the following situation.
Imagine you are sick and are going to a doctor. He is a famous doctor who has cured a lot of people. His certificates lie right on the table. But he is poorly dressed, with his shirt half tucked in, a jet of messy hair and a stinking breath. Will you feel like allowing him anywhere near you? Trust me, I won’t!
Imagine another situation where you are going to a doctor who is very attractive, neatly dressed (and smells nice!) It is natural for one to feel that such a good looking person will be good in what he/she does. You will feel comfortable under such a person’s care. Thus, appearances are important to an extent. This does not mean one should be beautiful or that one has to spend an entire day in the beauty parlor to succeed in one’s career! The point here is that one should make oneself presentable in public. A little make up to attract attention is appreciable but not necessary.
Thus, any normal human being will feel good about good looking people – at least in the beginning. Later, when they come to know about each other, things may change. But the bottom line here is appearances do play an important role. Women especially are concerned about how they look. The various advertisements on cosmetic products give that fact away!
