Student Essay – Essay on the Importance of Marks and Grades…
Does Your Grade Decide Your Life – or Do You?
In the light of recent events, it appears that students are particular about achieving great grades and marks in examinations. Or rather, it should be said that their parents are very anxious about their students’ scores in the examinations. There is nothing wrong with this wish. Things go wrong only when this wish becomes an obsession. In countries like India, especially in the state of Tamil Nadu, for instance, this obsession is probably at its peak. People are so concerned about their marks that they even go to the extent of taking their own lives when they do not achieve the particular score that they had set as target in mind. There is even a case in which a student attempted suicide because she failed to attain 95% in the exam – her actual score was 92%! If this is the case, what is the purpose of education? Why do we learn something called Moral Science? This student essay throws some light on such important issues.
When we talk about marks, perhaps we should also mention something called tuition centers. It is true that a slow learner may need help with his subjects. But help is not what he is receiving in many tuition centers (Context: Tamil Nadu). Asking a student to write a math problem a hundred times is not exactly what I would call help. It’s a hindrance. That’s no way to learn math – trust me! One can refer the math essays. When people are ready to go to any means to obtain marks, there are people who may want to exploit this weakness to their needs. When a person writes a formula, for instance, repeatedly, he automatically registers it in his memory. When that question appears in the exam, he writes the same thing, regardless of whether he has actually understood it and there- he gets his grade! But one does not see a point in doing so. I would ask you to take the direct route- understanding the concepts and appearing for the exam and not depending on wrote memory.
It is perhaps true that the marks, grades, the percentage etc that we attain in examinations are important parts of our academic life – but examination itself is not our entire life. There are so many things beyond that which are more painful to endure, or perhaps more worthwhile to experience. Committing suicide and deciding to forgo all the pleasures that life has to offer just because of a mere examination is extremely foolish. There may be many people who know this fact – bless them. But there are many who do not, and this essay is especially for them. We urge you to live life – not end it yourself, and that too when the reason is so insignificant. Life’s not worth it, especially yours! It is always important to put the best of your efforts, but it is not important for you to be the best of the lot.
These points can be mentioned in a student essay. Contact custom essays for more details.
