What is the Format of Critical Analysis?
• Identify the author by giving his past accomplishments and personal information like the place he was born, when he started writing, etc.
• First write down what prompted the author to write such an article, what the article is based on, for whom the article is directed to, etc.
• Look whether the article is primary source or secondary source of information. Primary sources are the original documents.
• Provide a summary on the main message in the article and then write the thesis statement for the article.
• Look into the underlying assumptions that the author might have and comment on them.
• Then you have to identify and evaluate the reasons for the author making the main claim and give the evidence that supports these assumptions.
• Write the refutations or the defenses that the makes to anticipate objections and answer them in.
These are the basics that have to be in a format of critical analysis.
